I was in Subang at this moment. The Blackberry showed a small ‘edge’ logo instead of CAPITAL ‘EDGE’ logo. I’m getting a lower signal and certainly a bad coverage.

Go browse Maxis Blackberry website. Surprisingly, you wont find Blackberry 8320 in there.

Luckily, I came to Maxis KLCC. Initially, the salesgirl brought a Blackberry 8310 for me. While she keyed in the details and to receive payment, she asked the other girl in front on her regarding the Blackberry 8310.

Her friends shouted, “Why do you give him Blackberry 8310. Go for Blackberry 8320. It’s the same price anyway”.

Lucky me. The BB 8320 comes with Wifi unlike BB 8310 and BB 8300.

Brought back home and play around with it. Need to connect to my Linksys dd-wrt router to the new BB 8320.

First of all, I need to register the Blackberry on the wireless.

To register a RIM 850 device, RIM 857 device, RIM 950 device, or RIM 957 device on the Mobitex or DataTac networks, complete the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, click Options.
2. Click Network Settings.
3. Verify that the Roaming field is set to the appropriate country.
4. Verify that the Radio field is set to On.
5. Click the trackwheel and select Register Now.
6. Click the trackwheel and select Save Options. Your RIM device connects to the wireless network. Once it is registered, the RIM device will display Active in the Status field.

The rest is history. I start to configure and install a lot of stuff.

I was thinking to get myself a Blackberry 8707v. But the drawback is that Blackberry 8707v only provide internal memory, 64MB.

And yes, it’s from Maxis Blackberry for Enterprise, not the Celcom-Vodafone Blackberry Powertools.

Now, Maxis offered many ‘updated’ Blackberry devices available from selected Maxis stores.

Sadly, no Blackberry 3G (except 8707v) offered. All with EDGE connectivity, the fastest of 128Mbps.

Should I wait for Blackberry Bold? It comes with HSDPA. Or maybe I could just live along with two mobile phone.

1. Maxis – For voice only
2. Celcom – For only data plan, especially with Celcom Powertools plan

Need to finalize this, by myself.

Refer to the table below for the available packages. I’m subscribing to Streamyx 1Mbps and Maxis 3G which allow me to read and reply email anywhere, anytime, as long as it has a coverage.

But mobile number portability (MNP), initiated by MCMC has not yet started and to be roll-out this year. If I chose Celcom broadband, I have to switch Maxis simcard with Celcom simcard which in very unconvenient.

I don’t bring my Thinkpad T42 all the time, to connect the Huawei USB modem just to login to the internet. Sony Ericsson k850i is pretty much convenient for browsing purposes, even though Blackberry is a better option. But that’s another story.

My company will look into considerations whether we as engineer is able to claim for a mobile internet connection either from Maxis or Celcom via 3G technology.

Did you read Sunday newspaper dated 16/9/07? Maxis has start ragingly advertised their Maxis Broadband service. They took one whole page with color.

And the funny thing is:

1. They aggressively promote Maxis Broadband after Celcom started it out with Celcom Broadband  with a RM68 price tag. Initially, it’s Maxis that launch their broadband early this year, but lacks of promotion.

2. It’s not that cheap. Refer to my earlier posting.

Why one earth MCMC didn’t give out the 3G license to Digi? Only because of it’s a Swedish company? Backed by Telenor?

I believe that if Digi got that license, both Maxis and Celcom have to follow Digi’s marketing style. Give consumer best option.

In this Web 2.0 age, people just don’t follow mainstream news. Especially for the product luncheon and product review by any company.

People prefer to read from a blog, with a blogger perspective and overview.
