I hope that this is just a normal site maintenance. Oh, Facebook, don’t disable my account like Robert Scoble. (Luckily he managed to reinstate it back!) Anyone having this kind of error message?

I get this all the time these days. Facebook is the worst performing social networking site.

Phew. I just had the same problem a few minutes ago. I then did a google search and found reports on vanishing profiles and hackers and stuff. Panic!
It seems to be working fine now though.

I also have this same problem.It happened for nearly a week. At the very beginning, just occur one to two times per day, but I cannot login today. Even when I successfully login, just few minutes, it automatically log out and ask me to sign up. Then appear the message. Don’t know what happened.
My account has been unavailable for a few hours due to site maintenance, but I am able to log in and go to the home page. I just can’t view my profile and it is really annoying.

Firstly, it said «maintenance», then I can log in but stuck at the home page. Oh well, Im trying to create another account, but still doesnt work. All of my friends have facebook working normally. Oh well, if the problem still existed in a week, I will quit using facebook for sure.

The scary thing about this is…I can’t log into MY account. But I have another account that I made a while ago for my sister and she never uses it, and it’s logging into her’s just fine. And when I try to visit my profile from her account, it’s blocked! Did I do something to make facebook mad at me or something??? They took off two of my personal videos recently because I put music in the background that was apparently copyrighted, and now I’m afraid they’re freezing my account because of it!

I’m getting the message now too, doing exactly as described above. “site maintenance” – I can get in for a quick view of my page, but cannot click on anything without it kicking me out. Does the problem eventually resolve itself? Or do I need to do something?

happens to me all the time. how do they choose which acocunts to do work on, surely its not everybodys ? is it just at random or through the list of IP’s that browse to the domain ?

Facebook did this to me today and it logged in but it said I had notifications and requests but when I clicked to veiw it nothing appeared same with my wall posts!!!!

I got this message on Firefox. Tried logging on through IE and it worked fine. Went back to Firefox, and got the same message. Stupid!

yep, I keep having the same thing, and as with Anna, when I log in via another account and try to view my own profile, it’s blocked. This is major suckage facebook! Major!

Same thing here. The site takes forever and freezes a lot. I get the same message posted above at times. Then once I get in, it takes forever to comment or post. Sometimes it ever reverts back t the previous day’s news feed! I think facebook is having major issues that no one is admitting.
I’ve noticed this as of lately: more account inaccessible events and total facebook slowdown progressing since the fall. I have a sneaking suspicion it might have something to do with it being integrated with Microsoft’s something-or-other now. Just a tad ridiculous, if you ask me. Now, I can survive without facebook for a while, but for people who use it as part of a livelihood or even the people that advertise (yeah, one of the few times I feel bad for advertisers) are getting screwed over because of people not being able to access their stuff.

Guys, you all complain about Facebook Maintenance. Its a website that allows you to communicate and play and post photos. So what….Thay have to do some Maintenance and you can’t access it for a few day or whatever – You must have such a great life if this is all you can depend on as a social life – try getting a real life.
Facebook is great when its up and then noone complains – So they have to do some Maintenance to make improvements to performance if they didn’t you’d complain even more…….Give them a break guys how about posting something you enjoy about Facebook and how much you miss it when its not there. If facebook was mine i’d make you all suffer and close it down – go design your own site with all your free time.

Why does “site maintenance” effect only a few people and not the ENTIRE site??!! Like so many others, I cannot log in but my boyfriend can. WTF?? Even more frustrating… no answers from Facebook. So please don’t tell me to “stop complaining”. I’m looking for answers and I’m getting NOTHING.
Ive had the same all day….cant get into the account….and I dont understand why….at least they could give more details as to why….rather than a general Maintainance message.
Well I do hate to complain….but I can’t get onto my f/b! This is devastating to me because the stuff I have on f/b, I can’t retrieve from the computer I started with. It’s gone. The pics and some important info. (to me) is on my f/b and I depend on it to get in touch w/ people. It claims it’s doing site maintenace…but it’s been going on for way too long. Honestly, what the hell is on my profile that’s taking them so long to “fix”. Nothing was broken in the first place. Never had a problem before and when I msg’d the f/b team, they didn’t respond. All I want is for someone from f/b to tell me….yes, they are infact fixing things up. That’s all I wanna hear!!! Otherwise I think someone has hacked into my f/b. Not cool!
In a site this large, you don’t just have one database handling members. You have MANY. This is why some people can log in fine while others are getting the site maintenance message. They have taken down one (or more) database server(s) and are doing maintenance on it.
Happen to my wifes account today, quite funny to watch her getting annoyed with her PC.
Found a work around click on the forgot password, enter your email address, follow the link in the email and change your password or just type in the same password, this then logs you in.
Hope this helps the people who can’t live without it.

I am getting this message although it doesn’t say its because of maintenance , it is saying due to a site issue, they are always doing this to me, my boyfriends and all my families are logging in fine!
k,it works perfectly on internet explorer but when i log in on mozilla firefox it has that stupid message. so if all you people are using firefox and getting this message switch to internet explorer n i guarenteed it will work.They need to fix something in firefox,maybe theres a bug in it that has something to do with facebook,for now try IE,and for all you people not using firefox and are using IE and it doesnt work,maybe switch to firefox…i dont know if it would work im just suggesting ideas.
Boo. Just started happening to me yesterday, then cleared up, and now this morning it’s back again. Guess the db server that my account is on is having some issues, as it’s clearly not affecting most people.

Happened to me this afternoon. Most of my FB woes happen on the weekend. My guess is that the weekend crew , if they are like every other place I’ve ever worked, are the least senior/experienced, techs on staff and don’t always get things, just right. I look at it as a blessing in that I get to sample what my life was like before I was consumed with Mafia wars. And if it never came back (because I broke one of FB’s 10,000 and 1 unwritten rules, I’d probably be better off anyway.

if site maintenance is REALLY the issue, fine. And if it takes a “few hours”, fine. But if it is really going to take more than a few hours, then just tell me.
however, if there is something else going on–like I unwittingly added a bad guy to my mafia clan or planted too many coconut trees in My Farm, I feel as though I ought to have an explanation. Communication is what facebook was founded on, right?

My account was unavailable since yesterday morning. I was playing my farm town and suddenly the server said lost connection and im logged out. Until now, i still cannot login to my facebook.
I have had this damn annoying message for the first time in three years and I have not been able to log on all weekend now.
I now understand how some of you guys must feel. I am also spending a few hours a week playing Mafia Wars. It is bloody frustrating as I hope and wonder if my account will be deleted for good.

My account went down for “several hours” for maintenance on Friday. It’s now Sunday night and I’ve not had access to my account all week end. I wrote a letter to their customer service site, they changed my password and told me to write back if that didn’t solve the issue. Well it didn’t, so I wrote them back and heard nothing after that.
There should be a status update page for Facebook that allows the to tell users when database maintenance is going on for longer than expected. I kind of doubt that this is maintenance still..I mean four days? Something is broken. And while I’m a Facebook addict, I’ve been a patient one. I was polite in my e-mails, did productive stuff over the weekend instead of stalk my friends and play my Mafia wars, and socialized with people..in person. However, I’m starting to get really freaking annoyed.
Just wanted to let ya’ll know that you’re not alone. Misery loves company, right?

I am trying to find out what casued the site maintenance message to appear. i do not think it matters wehter you are using Firfox or internet explorer and have cleared my cookies and temp folders etc and still no joy. I am using internet explorer.
for me the problem started when I joined a few mass adding groups for Mob wars. Have any of you done the same and now have your account locked?
Is so do you remember which add me groups you joined. I was adding friends at a rate of 30 – 40 a day and this could have flagged me to facebook.
I’m just now trying to find a common thread so we can work out the problem. If anyone knows of a fix I would be interested.

My friend and I checked my profile from her account, and all my pics, videos, and wall posts have been deleted. has anyone heard from FB yet about the issue? its so annoying. I have gotten through a few times yesterday and and saturday, but not at all today. how long with this crap last???
Same problem here! Except my partner can log in and when he tries to view my page it says unavailable. What a crappy service. Contact disabled@facebook.com or info@faceboo.com but who knows how long they will take to answer the email. I tried to phone them but it is automated and says they don’t deal with user issues over the phone. If it weren’t for all the apps I use I would close my account. Facebook has the all time worst customer service ever!

I think this is some kind of virus or malware. I receive this message on my computer but when I open it on my laptop (same network) it works fine.
i also received those “site maintenance” notifications when i try to log in to facebook… sometimes i can log in but when i try to post something i get the message “validation error” i think and sometimes “transport error”… i can’t also acccess my applications… my brother also uses facebook and everything is fine with his account… was my account banned or something? and what did i do to be banned if i was really banned… it’s been three days and still it’s not working properly… i hope it could still be fixed…

Yup, same thing on mine today. One diference, I was logged in, left for 40 min or so, and came back, clicked, and there’s the screen. It’s not malware, its facebook.

FUnny that some user can log in and some can’t..what are they trying to do.. i just remove the option which let 3rd parties use your photo and this happen.. think they piss off with me..

same thing just happened to me now, but i dont think its a virus or malware. i tried logging on via iphone and it wouldnt let me through either. at first i thought it was the iphone, but when i tried my laptop i received the same messages as everyone else. i hope it doesn’t last long. is there any way to contact facebook about this? =(

Same thing happening to me. It’s been two hours now and I’m kind of getting frustrated, I have messages to reply to. All I ever really do is post pictures and notes, play on farmtown and talk to friends, I have no idea what’s going on.
I tried everything that people suggested and still no luck, though facebook seems to be causing itunes huge amounts of lag even though I can’t log in. Hopefully facebook resolves this soon, it’s really bugging me.

This has been happening to me for a while too, what’s going on is, with facebook updating so much, they have things like glitches and bugs, think about this they are trying to update over billions of profiles, sometime things go wrong, what they are doing is fixing this problem, it takes them ages to update and fix things, you might not know it, but your profile can be pretty fucked up. Mine does things like tell me i have notifications when i really don’t. Pretty much your facebook is fucked, your better off making another one. What they did was disable you from getting on that account, since with this glitch it allows hackers to make it through their security blahblahblah. So if this happening to you, just make a temporary account for now, and sooner or later they will fix it, it might take from a few minutes, to hours, to even months, but your account will be back sooner or later
i used f/b yesterday morning it was fine . turned pc on again at tea time and got the maintainance message temp unavailable for a few hours it is now sun pm and still no joy jst cant get logged in yet my 2 daughters can on the same pc , help how frustrating .
I have been getting Site Maintenance message since 8am Saturday morning its now 9pm on Sunday evening and still cannot log in. Tried clearing cookies, cache file, switching of modem etc. My household members can access FB all on this same PC just appears to be my FB account. Not good there is not FB Customer service dept, phone line etc
How long do facebook class as a few hours as my account has been “temporarily unavailable” for 48 hours now. I’ve tried clearing my cookies and cache but to no avail. This is getting worse!! been using FB for a while, but never had a problem until recently. Now we’re getting this stupid message 2 or 3 times a day!! Get your servers upgraded/sorted out Facebook, or sack your staff!!!

I’ve been getting the same message for the last 5 days. This worries me because I’m a promoter and cultivating my social network and re freshening it is how I pay the bills. I have another facebook account that works fine it’s just that i have 3000+ friends on my main account.
I have read every single post and utilized all useful posts (cleared my cache/ cookies , etc)
What has somewhat worked for me was swtiching from firefox to internet explorer and after a few failed attempts at logging in on internet explorer it went through.
I went ahead and changed my password and now facebook is working like normal on internet explorer (although i still can’t log in with firefox)

OK people. Obviously none of you have a working knowledge of computers, or servers. Facebook uses MANY different computers (servers) to store the immense amount of data that users upload. Eventually these drives get maxed out and larger ones are needed. To do this, you need to shut down that server, or at least that hard drive. If you’re account happens to be on that drive… guess what? You’re SOL until they finish the upgrade. Get used to it. Computers always need maintenance for one thing or another. In the meantime, get your lazy asses outside and get some exercise in the outdoors. By the way, that bright shining thing in the sky won’t hurt you. It’s called the Sun.

I had important messages to get & send to people dear to me.I thought was it something I did? like post too many youtubes to incur their wrath?.
Happy ending: next day I’m back on my facebook account intact.Maybe they REALLY DO need to switch off your account for local server maintenance.
So don’t panic at first folks.Have faith.Only if you have been really naughty would you be permanently shut down;- could really be urgent maintenance they are doing for a few hours!.
^ that dude up doesnt have a clue. yes they use many servers. but they are not computers as you know them.. they are warehouses of data, maintained by compaines facebook pays to keep the data on. you dont shut down those drives. when you need somthing changed you just hot swap the drives which can operate one less without loosing data. and the “drives” are units containing up to 24 drives all working in a raid cluster or somthing similar.
when they need more data they get a new system and copy it over and switch while live. no shutting down

i have it for the last two week everytime i try to log in!!! but only when do it on my laptop. Whenever i use other laptops everything works and i can easily log into my account.

i came on my computer about 2 in the after noon and tried to log on my face book and it came up account unavailable try in a few hours soo i waited till six o’clock and tried it let on for about a min then went off again i tried to log on and it said that again so i waited i gain and logged on about 11 it worked for about a min again then went back off i im really pissed off now i want to no how to complain because there is no need for this i always go on facebook and always get the shitty things happenin to me all the time by alan doyle

okay, it’s only been a few hours since I’ve been getting this maintenance thing,, so trying not to rush into any conclusions,, I tried to login using my cousin’s Facebook account, hers work just fine, anyway, here’s what I read on Facebook’s help thing,,
“We don’t do site maintenance on all accounts at the same time, so it is possible that some of your friends will be able to access the site while your account is unavailable.”

well…. i actually have contacted the facebook developers…. believe it or not… they said that their maintenance for each account actually will only take less than 10 mins! the problem is that we are IMPATIENT enough to wait that it floods their servers with request to access our accounts! thats why it’s so DAMN LONG!…..

It’s been about 10hrs and I still can’t logged into my account. Obviously, we should petition to fb that we need to be informed a day earlier if they are going to do site maintenance. I had added an application of a facebook profile layout colour. So, this may be the culprit of why I can’t logged into my account. I had never had this problem for 2years. The problem still exists. These people are really idiots. Have they ever heard of clustering? DUH!!!! You never ever ever take down a whole site for maintenance unless you are really stupid and have no online hot spares to handle load. When was the last time Microsoft/Google/MSN/CNN/Yahoo/name your site went down for maintenance. This is totally ridiculous. Poorly managed is putting this social site in a very generous light.
